Georgia NDNP Project Manager (Limited-Term)

Responsibilities

Guides projects to successful conclusions by making necessary adjustments in workflow and serving as a liaison between the DLG, other library units, and applicable vendors
Maintains quality control and project goals by reviewing work; monitoring of vendor imaging, OCR, and XML output; and record editing and updating as necessary
Evaluates newspaper microfilm quality and suitability for digitization
Writes historical essays for digitized newspaper titles
Generates structural and administrative metadata for computer indexing
Develops delivery schedules; maintains tracking system for microfilm and digital deliverables
Participates in the hire and supervision of student employees engaged in imaging and other tasks associated with the creation of digital newspaper resources
Creates documentation, and measures outputs by generating and collecting statistics
Participates in library-wide communication by reading, responding to, and initiating information transmitted via the Library listserv, and appropriate library-wide or departmental meetings, and asking questions, seeking clarification, or initiating discussion on library issues
Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the department by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience

Preferred

Past grant project experience preferred
Experience with digital imaging of still images and microfilm to optimize OCR output preferred
Demonstrated project management experience preferred
Quality control experience preferred
Experience with and a solid understanding of digitization and/or microfilm conversion projects, including microfilm inspection and assessment for digitization preferred
Experience with standards-based metadata schemas (non-MARC and MARC) and principles governing standards in digital libraries preferred
Knowledge of newspapers or serials, and ability to assess complex relationships between titles preferred
Bachelor's degree in related field OR
Three years of experience working in a library or similar setting
One or more years of experience supervising or directing the work of others
