Head of Financial Operations

FamilyWell is an AI-enabled mental health start-up dedicated to solving the women’s mental health crisis. They are seeking a strategic and operationally excellent Head of Financial Operations to lead revenue cycle management and provide critical financial insights to drive national expansion.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end revenue cycle operations, including accounts receivable, claims submission and follow-up, denial management, and cash collections
Lead payer contracting strategy and negotiations, establishing favorable rates and terms that support company growth and profitability
Oversee provider credentialing processes across multiple states, ensuring timely enrollment and maintenance of credentials with commercial and Medicaid payers
Manage clinic invoicing and revenue recognition for partner practices utilizing CoCM billing codes
Develop and implement RCM policies, procedures, and workflows that scale with company growth
Monitor key RCM metrics (days in A/R, clean claim rate, collection rate, denial rate) and drive continuous improvement
Partner with clinical operations to ensure proper documentation supports billing and reimbursement
Stay current on CoCM billing regulations, payer policies, and reimbursement trends
Build and maintain sophisticated financial models to forecast revenue, evaluate payer mix, and assess contract profitability
Conduct scenario analysis to inform strategic decisions on market expansion, payer partnerships, and pricing strategies
Translate complex financial data into actionable insights and recommendations for executive leadership
Partner with leadership on annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range financial planning
Analyze unit economics by state, payer, and service line to optimize resource allocation
Develop financial dashboards and reporting tools that provide real-time visibility into business performance
Support fundraising efforts with financial projections and modeling
Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing RCM team, including the Director of Revenue Cycle Management who oversees billing specialists, A/R analysts, and credentialing coordinators
Set clear goals and performance metrics; provide regular coaching and professional development
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration
Scale team structure and capabilities in alignment with company growth
Partner with external vendors and consultants as needed to supplement internal capabilities
Serve as primary financial liaison with payer partners, addressing reimbursement issues and optimizing relationships
Collaborate with sales and partner success teams to evaluate financial viability of new provider partnerships and contracts
Work with legal counsel on contract negotiations and compliance matters
Build relationships with industry associations and peer organizations to stay informed on best practices

Required

7+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Proven track record negotiating and managing payer contracts, particularly with commercial and Medicaid plans
Deep expertise across all RCM functions: A/R management, claims processing, credentialing, denials, and collections
Strong financial modeling and analytical skills; proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and financial planning tools
Experience managing and developing RCM teams in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field
Exceptional attention to detail with ability to balance strategic thinking and tactical execution
Outstanding communication skills with ability to present financial insights to non-financial stakeholders

Preferred

Experience with Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) billing codes (99492, 99493, 99494) and integrated behavioral health
Background in women's health, maternal health, or behavioral health services
Experience in a high-growth startup or digital health company
Knowledge of multi-state healthcare operations and varying state regulations
Familiarity with EHR systems and practice management software
MBA or relevant advanced degree
CHFP, CRCR, or other relevant certifications
