Responsibilities

Engineer supports the design, manufacture, modification and installation of heavy equipment, including hoisting and conveyance systems and mobile equipment, for the underground mining and heavy civil construction industries
The position is responsible for the analysis, engineering, design, and support of a variety of machine design projects - from concept to operation
The Mechanical Engineer will be instrumental to the Equipment Division team as well as the Project teams in designing and specifying system components of products to ensure conformance with engineering best practices and performance specifications
The position will help develop standards for existing company assets; as well as provide project and shop support
The position will also work with the Equipment Department and Project teams to develop preliminary drawings and plans for job estimates, support the Equipment Department in the procurement of technical equipment for projects (such as plant equipment for Mining Projects, Plant Equipment for Civil Tunneling projects, Tunnel Boring Machines etc.)
Demonstrate creativity and strategic thinking in anticipating and solving engineering problems, developing standards, and determining project objectives and requirements
Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
Design mechanical systems, structures, and components
Perform stress & fatigue calculations by hand and with the use of Finite Element software
Work with vendors to acquire & specify off the shelf components
Design modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures, and components
Review designs to ensure fit, function, and accuracy of engineering
Ensure compliance with safety standards related to system, structures, and components
Ensure the final solution complies with both customer requirements and internal design standards
Test/Troubleshoot mechanical systems
Intermittent travel as required to project sites for on-site engineering support
Coordinate and provide engineering support to the shop employees

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering; emphasis on machine design is essential
Strong project management skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred

The ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) within 2 years preferred
Experience with power transmission components (bearings, couplings, gear reducers, etc.), general machine design, and fluid systems a plus
Additional Beneficial Skills: Autodesk Inventor/Vault, FEA, Fabrication Drawing Development, GD&T, Welding Specifications, Document Control, Structural Steel, and Steel Fabrication
