Responsibilities

Perform professional accounting or auditing tasks requiring a knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in the development, examination, review, analysis or supervision of financial and accounting records including the preparation of related reports and statements
Within broad administrative policy limitations and following well established and accepted accounting and auditing methods and procedures, accountants design new or revise existing accounting systems
May perform both accounting and auditing activities or, depending on the nature of an agency program and the assignment, may specialize in one functional area

Required

A bachelor's in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR a bachelor's with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses for appointment to the Accountant Trainee 1
A bachelor's in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR a bachelor's with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses AND one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing for appointment to the Accountant Trainee 2
A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses for appointment to the Accountant Trainee 2
A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses AND two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing for appointment to the Senior Accountant (SG-18)
A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation AND one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing for appointment to the Senior Accountant (SG-18)
A currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State
24 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation for transfer appointment

Preferred

Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
Experience with Governmental/Fund Accounting
Ability to work with others in a team setting
Ability to multitask and establish priorities
Ability to meet deadlines
Positive attitude toward meeting goals
