Non-Engineering Summer Intern
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is offering a summer internship program through the Department of Transportation for college students. Interns will engage in various projects related to communication, data management, and planning while conducting physical surveys of roadway infrastructure to ensure safety and compliance.
Responsibilities
Conduct physical surveys of shoulders, drainage systems, and guiderails as part of the Systematic Technique to Analyze and Manage Pennsylvania Pavements (STAMPP) program
Assess the condition of shoulders and guiderails while operating a state vehicle, driving along the roadway's shoulder, and performing evaluations from within the vehicle
Work in pairs with survey teams to cover approximately half of the District's roadway network between May and August
Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to proper safety protocols, being aware of the work area, and taking proactive measures to prevent accidents and injuries
Report all incidents immediately and seek timely treatment to mitigate further risks
Adhere to attendance policies, scheduling procedures, and effective time management to minimize downtime and ensure productivity
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll FULL-TIME or PART-TIME in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced program for the fall semester
Acceptable majors include Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Communications, Human Resources, Public Administration, or any other majors with direct paths to PennDOT employment
Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university
In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
Must be at least 18 years of age
You must be able to perform essential job functions
You must pass a background investigation
