Theatre Teacher (9-12) 2026-2027
Foundation Academies is Trenton, New Jersey’s largest and highest-ranking K-12 free public charter school serving over 1,000 scholars. The Theatre Teacher will design and deliver standards-aligned theater lessons, facilitate rehearsal experiences, and create an inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and artistic growth.

Responsibilities
Design and deliver standards-aligned theater lessons that develop acting technique, stage presence, character interpretation, and performance skills
Facilitate hands-on rehearsal experiences that encourage exploration of voice, movement, emotion, and storytelling, while strengthening collaboration and ensemble work
Create a structured, inclusive, and welcoming classroom and rehearsal environment that promotes belonging, teamwork, and engagement
Model strong emotional intelligence, communication, and interpersonal skills to support positive classroom culture and community building
Manage rehearsal spaces, props, costumes, and stage equipment to ensure safe, equitable access to high-quality theatrical resources
Assess student progress using formative and summative measures and provide timely, actionable feedback to support skill development and performance growth
Engage in ongoing professional learning to refine instructional practices and strengthen theater curriculum and pedagogy
Design lessons and select scripts, exercises, and performances that reflect cultural diversity and affirm the identities and experiences of all scholars
Collaborate with special education staff, support teams, and instructional leaders to provide accommodations and ensure inclusive access to theater instruction
Participate in family engagement initiatives and schoolwide events that strengthen communication between home and school and showcase student performances
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Art Education or a related art field
Valid New Jersey certification in Art (appropriate grade-level endorsement)
Demonstrated success delivering standards-aligned art instruction that engages students and supports growth
Proven ability to support diverse learners through inclusive, differentiated instructional practices
Commitment to professional growth, collaboration, and culturally responsive, anti-discriminatory teaching aligned to the school's mission
Preferred
At least 2 years of experience teaching art in an urban school setting preferred
