Senior Financial Counselor, Nucleus, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
UofL Health is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient financial assistance and procedure cost estimate services. The Senior Financial Counselor will develop and manage these programs, acting as a liaison to ensure effective delivery and education for patients and revenue cycle partners.

Responsibilities
Develop and maintain policies and procedures via industry benchmark data and best practices research and federal guidelines in partnership with ULP leadership
Interface with executive leadership, clinic management, and providers through presentation of program policies/procedures, performance against set goals, and projects within the program
Strive to meet or exceed charity care metrics set by revenue cycle leadership
Set and develop goals for subgroups within the organization through strategic planning
Act as program liaison to all ULP (AMG and CMG) practices and revenue cycle departments
Develop and execute program introduction and continued education communication plan for clinic staff and managers
Provide on-site support to clinic front desks and managers in delivering program education as well as executing patient program enrollment in an in-person setting
Owner of EHR-based communication regarding the program, including the management of workqueues, patient outreach, troubleshooting and problem resolution
Identify and execute program process improvement efforts
Analyze patient, clinic revenue data, and service-area economic data for proactive program outreach
Socialize the program to clinics and clinic leadership with program underutilization with targeted outreach efforts
Owner of all patient-facing communication for the program, including organization website, marketing materials, patient financial assistance web page, statement and collections vendor communication of the program, any/all other mediums through which the program can be communicated
Develop and provide education support to newly hired employees involved in revenue-cycle process through partnership with HR and hiring managers
Process patient financial assistance applications in a timely and efficient manner
Provide resources to help patients organize financial obligations, identify alternative resources to help in balance resolution including assisting with application to Medicaid and other programs

Responsible for promoting effectiveness of process tools, including EHR workqueues, cost-estimate tool(s), and other technologies related to the process through partnership with IT and organization leadership within the revenue cycle department
Identify and execute process improvement efforts

Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED, required
Ability to multitask and navigate between multiple systems simultaneously
Ability to handle a large volume of incoming calls
Knowledgeable in medical procedures and medical terminology
Knowledge of managed care programs, application processes and eligibility guidelines, federal poverty limits, and income verification
Strong analytical, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds
Analytical abilities required for identifying and resolving patient inquiries relating to his or her account
Knowledge of basic accounting principles
Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities
Well organized and have good problem-solving skills
Must be able to prioritize and schedule job duties
Must be able to match medical terms to the correct codes
Must understand insurance carrier payment and billing regulations in order to correctly balance bill
Preferred
Associate's or bachelor's degree strongly preferred
Minimum 3 years' experience in health care, preferred
3 - 5 years exp in healthcare fin counseling position
