Supervisor Communication and Records - Department of Public Safety
The University of Central Oklahoma is seeking a Supervisor Communication and Records for their Department of Public Safety. This role is responsible for enhancing the execution of Communication Center functions and improving customer service while managing a diverse team and collaborating with various departments.

Serving as a leader in a highly functioning department with ability to unlock full potential of assigned staff
Development of efficient procedures, guidelines, and workflows for operating a Communications Center
Effectively utilize data and intelligence to enhance decision making and maintain components to ensure a continuous operational Communications Center
Remain organized and engaged with staffing administrative duties while identifying solution-based opportunities to sustain critical functions
Build, develop, and lead a diverse, high-performing team while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
Cultivate excellence within the team
Serve as a role model for behaviors that inspire trust and confidence throughout the staff
Dedicate sufficient time with the team across different shifts to implement and execute the Communications Center standards
Oversee and execute a dedicated workforce, adhering to timelines, and achieving key milestones
Oversee operational activities of the UCO Communications Center including staffing, technology solutions, processes and procedures, and supporting various University departments in their activities
Ensures an organized, clean, and functional Communications Center that is customer service oriented and provides a model experience to visitors
Monitor and assist in troubleshooting issues with communications equipment and systems that could disrupt Communications Center functions and cause safety concerns
Manages and utilizes two-way radios while employing police radio codes, computers, telephone system, fax machine, and additional devices
Monitors fire and burglar alarms, closed circuit video cameras, and interacts with a variety of systems including agency and state reporting and tracking software, web based and cloud-based systems and applications, the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)
Effectively manage and utilize additional UCO and non-UCO related systems to conduct operations in support of public safety activities
Responds rapidly to emergency calls, employing effective decision-making and prioritization skills, as needed
Provides administrative support to Public Safety team and conducts administrative functions that enable team to conduct work efficiently without continuous oversight
Serves as the communications training officer to ensure Communications Center personnel are effective in public safety communications and follow policies and procedures
Foster strong and authentic relationships with internal and external customers, leveraging those connections to enhance the operations of the Communications Center
Develop a culture of customer service within the staff by informing and encouraging behaviors that prioritize the UCO community
Effectively lead and provide additional support with managing records requests, public information programs and publications, and community engagement activities
Participates in the preparation of the annual budget for equipment, supplies and personnel for the Communications Center needs and implements approved expenditures
Prepares requisitions and purchase orders following University procedures
Manages Paid Time Off (PTO) including vacation, sick, personal holiday and overtime schedules
Prepares monthly UCR/NIBRS crime reports and assists or prepares other departmental reports and publications as directed inclusive of maintaining and confirming information related to items that have been entered by the department as stolen to external systems
Prepares and interprets (weekly, monthly, annual reports) required by local, state and federal laws/regulations and University policies
Qualification
Required
General education or vocational training and 3+ years' relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) certification (active or expired)
Current First Aid and CPR certification
Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle
Must NOT have any felony conviction or misdemeanor conviction for domestic abuse or any serious misdemeanor
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in a field of study that is related to or corresponds to Public Safety operations
5+ years of related experience + 1 year of supervisory experience in related position
Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Communications Center Supervisor Certification
Incident Command System Certification in ICS 100, 200, 700, and 300
