WSP is a leading engineering and professional services firm in the U.S. seeking a Distribution Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 in Pensacola, FL. The intern will support engineering tasks, learn utility distribution design, and assist in data collection and engineering consulting for electric utility clients.

Responsibilities

Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of utility distribution design
Assist with data collection and engineering consulting services for distribution line design, coordination, and material selection on Medium Voltage systems
Support a variety of electric utility clients, including co-ops, public utility districts, investor-owned utilities, and municipalities
Prepare basic engineering calculations and analyze systems using computer modeling
Develop construction drawings and conduct self-checks to ensure design quality as part of POWER’s quality process
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred

Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection
Familiarity with design, drafting, programming, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, Python, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
