Level 1 Multi-Trade Building Inspector

NEOGOV is seeking a Multi-Trade Building Inspector to join the Community Development Team in Topsail Beach, NC. The ideal candidate will perform multi-trade inspections for compliance with the North Carolina Building Codes and enforce local codes and ordinances related to construction and housing conditions.

Responsibilities

Review permit applications and plans for completeness and compliance
Perform multi-trade inspections on residential and non-residential buildings in the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building trades
Prepare documentation of approval or defects of inspections and record them in the Town’s database/software system
Coordinate and provide interpretations of the codes for contractors, designers, business owners, residents, and homeowners within the Town’s jurisdiction
Attend continuing education classes as required by the North Carolina Code Qualifications Board
Code Enforcement of local ordinances, which includes investigating and processing local code violations to bring property into compliance
Administrative duties including but not limited to data entry, email correspondence, scheduling, and filing
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Experience in performing multi-trade inspections in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building trades
Knowledge of North Carolina Building Codes and related Town ordinances and policies
Ability to review permit applications and plans for completeness and compliance
Skills in preparing documentation of approval or defects of inspections and recording them in a database/software system
Ability to coordinate and provide interpretations of codes for contractors, designers, business owners, residents, and homeowners
Willingness to attend continuing education classes as required by the North Carolina Code Qualifications Board
Experience in code enforcement of local ordinances, including investigating and processing local code violations
Administrative skills for daily computer and software use including data entry and record-keeping maintenance
Ability to work independently and without close supervision
Excellent communication skills to explain complex information in a non-technical manner
Ability to use firmness and tact when enforcing ordinances and codes with contractors and the general public
