Engine Mechanic - National Geographic Sea Bird & Sea Lion
Lindblad Expeditions is a pioneer in Expedition Travel, taking guests to remote locations on their fleet of ships. The Engine Mechanic is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer with the maintenance and operation of all vessel systems, ensuring the ship's machinery and equipment are functioning optimally.

Responsibilities
Operates and maintains the ship’s propulsion system
Operates and maintains the electrical generation and distribution system, including emergency power
Operates and maintains potable water and auto chlorination system
Operates and maintains black water/gray water/waste tanks, treatment, and testing program
Operates and maintains HVAC and refrigeration systems
Performs routine maintenance checks and keeps records of jobs performed
Keeps the Chief Engineer informed of all maintenance and repairs that have been done
Helps with engineering, deck and hotel preventative maintenance programs on daily, weekly and monthly basis
Completes maintenance and repair tasks as requested in the Cabin Maintenance Notebook
Performs hotel maintenance tasks as directed
Participates in shipyard availabilities
Assists Chief Engineer in all bunkering operations
Sweeps decks, washes windows, keeps vessels free of rust, and empties trash receptacles on a regular basis
Cleans the public restroom and general interior areas such as bulkheads, lockers, etc
Primes and paints the vessel as assigned
Assists Deck, Hotel, and Expeditions departments as directed by Chief Engineer
Uses chemicals for cleaning and ship maintenance while ensuring personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, etc. are used correctly in accordance with Safety Data Sheets
May be assigned various special projects as per the Chief Engineers work list
Uses NSE to update vessel maintenance records for engineering work items
Assists the Chief Engineer with inventories
Operates onboard computer using standard and customized software applications
Maintains compliance of Technical systems onboard with the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) regulations
Participates in on board safety training, meetings and drills, as directed by the Captain, including fire, abandon ship, man overboard, flooding and medical emergencies
Supports the ships security arrangements as directed by the Ship Security Officer as needed
Follows company safety and pollution prevention policies and procedures and requests guidance when necessary
Assists in the preparation the vessel for all U.S. Coast Guard annual dry docks and other inspections
Participates in shoreside training as required by the company
Qualification
Required
EPA Section 608 Technician Type 1 Certification
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
Valid TWIC card
Valid US Passport
Valid USCG Medical Card per STCW standard (2 years)
STCW Basic Safety Training (BST)
STCW Crowd Management (CM)
STCW Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD)
Working knowledge of diesel propulsion and electricity generation systems
Must be a self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks and work with little supervision and work in small spaces
Crisis management: work well under pressure, act quickly and decisively using sound judgment
Detail oriented and thorough; able to follow through on assigned tasks
Able to work independently using initiative and creativity to complete assigned tasks
Strong time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines
The ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Must be able to provide concise and clear reports as required
Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor
Preferred
Knowledge of support systems such as fuel centrifuges, air compressors, pumps, hydraulics, water makers, hotel systems, plumbing, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning
Personal computer experience: Excel spreadsheet experience, and Windows applications (including Word)
Maritime/boating experience
Good customer service skills; professional demeanor, ability to use necessary levels of tact and courtesy
