Inside Higher Ed is seeking an Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations for UCLA’s School of Dentistry. The role involves overseeing development and alumni relations, establishing goals and objectives for programs, and managing efforts to attract private support while representing the school to donors and the community.

Responsibilities

Oversee the entire range of development and alumni relations for the school

Establish goals and objectives for programs and activities reflective of funding priorities

Design and implement comprehensive and integrated development and alumni programs

Plan, manage and direct efforts to attract private support from individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations

Lead special events, volunteer and board management efforts designed to achieve the school’s goals and increase Dentistry’s visibility and outreach

Represent the school to donors and the wider community

Required

Minimum of seven years of experience and progressive responsibility as a professional development officer or similar professional experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer driven or other related environment

Progressively responsible experience in the design, implementation and management of complex development or comparable programs including the ability to envision and articulate future direction

Demonstrated experience in developing successful cultivation and solicitation strategies and soliciting high-level major gifts and/or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity

Excellent donor, alumni relations or similar constituent based- relationship skills with expert knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity

Appropriate management and administrative skills needed to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers. Strong supervisory skills to oversee and evaluate the efforts of professional fundraisers

Excellent communication skills to express, both verbally and in writing, the mission of the University and the fund-raising goals of the campus, especially as they relate to the School of Dentistry

Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with the Dean, faculty, and administration; central development; major donor prospects; and volunteers

Effective verbal communication skills to make persuasive oral presentations to senior management and internal and external constituencies conduct participatory meetings; gain acceptance of decisions and advise and collaborate with others

Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with academic leaders, faculty, staff, donors and volunteers

Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through

Steadfast commitment to work of impeccable integrity with strong analytical and organizational skills to develop creative, credible solutions, recommendations and programs as well as to define and implement special fundraising and/or program related projects

Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed
