Seasonal Maintenance Work Leader (Trails)
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is seeking a Seasonal Maintenance Work Leader for trail maintenance responsibilities. The role includes providing leadership, scheduling daily tasks, and overseeing the maintenance and repair of trails and associated facilities.

Responsibilities
Incumbent will be responsible for the leadership and daily scheduling of trail maintenance duties, minor maintenance and repair trails including but not limited to campgrounds and picnic areas
Work leader will demonstrate proper work methods and work along with others to set a work pace
Ensuring safety and housekeeping rules are followed
Perform and oversee the full range of hands-on, day to day trails maintenance across the park
Build trail structures, organize the transportation of trail building supplies to job sites, and oversee the upkeep of back country campsites
Oversee or make needed repairs to damaged trail assets including but not limited to foot bridges, stairs, trail surface tread, board walks, back country pit toilets, cedar wood routed signs, turnpikes and water bars
Incumbent will maintain trail condition standards and assist the work supervisor to stock needed supplies
Work lead ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed
Work leader will recommend operation needs to work supervisor per request
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship required
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
Ability To Lead Or Supervise
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc
Knowledge of materials
Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Experience leading and/or supervising large work crews of 4 or more people including volunteers, Scout troops, and Youth Conservation Corps
Experience with maintenance activities such as carpentry for building foot bridges, boardwalks, stairs, fences, bulletin boards, retaining walls, etc
Experience with trail maintenance such as tree trimming/removal, pruning, trail tread maintenance and construction, trail drainage repair, maintenance and construction, etc
Experience with concrete, masonry or stone work for trail tread, retaining walls, drainage structures, etc
Planning project logistics, executing and directly overseeing work, and providing primary quality control in the areas of rough carpentry, dry and/or wet stone masonry, asphalt tread, trail condition assessment, use of hand tools, and equipment operation
Following instructions provided in various formats: oral, written, blueprints, manuals, etc
Operating forklift, pick-up truck/trailer combinations, and other related equipment
Applying best practices in trail work and trail equipment maintenance, as well as the proper and safe use of tools and equipment
Physical ability to lift and/or carry items weighing up to 75 lbs
Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, in temperatures that vary from 11 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit
