Senior Avionics & Electrical Systems Engineer

Float is an early-stage aerospace company developing advanced airship systems for large-scale cargo applications. As a Senior Avionics & Electrical Systems Engineer, you will design, build, and integrate the electrical and avionics systems for Float’s airship platform, ensuring safe and reliable operation through hands-on engineering and collaboration with various engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Design and develop electrical and avionics subsystems for a large-scale cargo airship
Architect power distribution , grounding, and protection schemes
Select, integrate, and validate sensors, actuators, and flight-critical electronics
Design wiring harnesses, connector schemes, and system layouts with manufacturability and serviceability in mind
Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, bench testing, and system bring-up
Participate directly in prototype build, integration, and testing
Assist in developing test plans, validation procedures, and failure analyses
Collaborate closely with software, structures, propulsion, and manufacturing teams

Required

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent real-world experience
Strong background in electrical system design for embedded or aerospace systems
Experience designing and integrating power, sensing, and control electronics
Proficiency with schematic capture, wiring diagrams, and basic PCB-level design
Understanding of EMI/EMC, grounding, and fault tolerance
Comfortable working hands-on with hardware in a shop or lab environment
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Preferred

Experience with avionics systems or flight-critical electronics
Background in UAVs, experimental aircraft, robotics, or automotive systems
Familiarity with certification-aware or regulated environments
Experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and instrumentation
Prior experience at an aerospace startup or skunkworks-style engineering team
