Research Specialist - Artificial Intelligence

Responsibilities
Conduct research and development in AI for various problems relating to scientific discovery, workflow acceleration, and computational science advancements
Implement, adapt, and evaluate state-of-the-art AI algorithms for scientific applications
Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams of domain scientists and subject matter experts to translate research into impactful solutions
Communicate and disseminate research progress, challenges, and achievements through publications, presentations, and engagement with collaborators across BNL, DOE, and external partners
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with 2 or more years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree with 1 or more years of relevant work experience, or a PhD degree in computer science or a related field (e.g., engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, physical sciences)
Demonstrated research or engineering experience, evidenced by software contributions (e.g., GitHub projects) or publications in the AI field
Strong programming skills and solid computer science fundamentals, with proficiency in AI frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch)
Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
Preferred
Practical experience developing novel AI algorithms and models and applying such models to scientific or security problems
Proven ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary research teams
Experience with large-scale AI model training
Proficiency with modern software development practices and tools, such as containerization (Docker, Singularity), source control (Git), continuous integration, and MLOps frameworks
