Sr. Treasury Analyst, Endowment Management

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Sr. Treasury Analyst, Endowment Management at its Detroit campus location. The role focuses on managing the financial operations of the University’s endowment and investment activities, leading data analytics and report development, and ensuring financial accuracy and compliance across the organization.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of dashboards, financial models, and reporting tools to support Treasury
Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that inform strategic planning and decision-making
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and alignment with institutional goals
Continuously enhance reporting capabilities by integrating new technologies and best practices in data visualization and analytics
Support the financial administration of the University’s endowment and investment activities
Prepare, analyze, and reconcile investment transactions across the University’s accounting system, bank statements, custodian records, and investment manager reports
Record journal entries accurately and in a timely manner to reflect endowment activity
Review endowment investment activity, calculate unit purchases and income distributions, update financial schedules, and prepare related accounting entries
Assist in preparing endowment accounting reports, including fiscal year-end financial statements and footnote disclosures
Ensure compliance with GAAP, University policies, and divisional objectives
Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data to maintain accuracy and consistency across reporting systems
Support ad hoc analysis and reporting requests from Treasury, Finance, and other University stakeholders
Contribute to financial operations for the Wayne State University Foundation, including tax reporting, annual audit and financial statement preparation
Assist with surveys, ad hoc investment data requests, and preparation of tax and regulatory reports to ensure compliance and support external reporting
Support the operations, administration and accounting of philanthropic contributions, including stock gifts, charitable gift annuities (CGAs), and life insurance policies
Prepare journal entries related to CGAs, life insurance transactions, and stock contributions
Provide Treasury-related support to campus partners, including Development and Alumni Relations and the Office of Technology Transfer, to ensure effective financial coordination and compliance
Perform daily cash positioning to ensure sufficient liquidity for institutional needs
Provide support for payment processing, financial analysis, reporting, and benchmarking
Support oversight of University merchant credit card accounts and help maintain compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards

Required

Bachelor's degree
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience. Degrees in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, & Information Systems or similar preferred
Financial Management: 3+ years of progressive experience in reporting, analysis, and process improvement
Microsoft Excel: Proficient in spreadsheet functions
ERP Systems: Experience with enterprise resource planning systems
Financial Analysis: Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
Compliance: Background check clearance required for role eligibility
Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills to interpret financial data and identify trends in a fund accounting environment
Attention to Detail: Proven ability to maintain high levels of accuracy in data entry, documentation, and financial reporting, ensuring precision across all tasks
Financial Systems: Proficient in the use of complex financial management system software (Banner or comparable software) and Microsoft Office Suite products, primarily Excel for analysis, reporting, and decision-making
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify financial issues, analyze root causes, and support decision making
Timeliness: Strong time management skills with a consistent track record of meeting deadlines and delivering work efficiently in fast-paced environments
Collaborative Culture: Demonstrated dedication to creating a respectful and welcoming workplace that values varied perspectives, promotes fairness, and supports efforts to build a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture
Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication skills to articulate financial concepts and strategies to stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Business Intelligence/Database Tools: Power BI, Tableau & Microsoft Access or similar
Excel & VBA: Advanced spreadsheet modeling and automation
