Responsibilities
Operate various types of heavy equipment as needed
Communicate effectively with the Department Director regarding repairs and maintenance needs
Provide updates on equipment performance and recommend improvements
Maintenance and Repairs: Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy equipment and trucks to ensure they operate efficiently and safely
Diagnostic Testing: Using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical issues and troubleshooting problems in various systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Parts Replacement: Replacing worn or damaged parts, such as brakes, tires, batteries, and filters, ensuring that all repairs are carried out to manufacturer's specifications
Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations while performing work to prevent accidents and injuries, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment
Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed records of maintenance and repairs, including parts used, labor hours, and costs associated with each job
Equipment Operation: Operating heavy equipment and trucks as needed for testing or during repairs, ensuring familiarity with all equipment functions and capabilities
Collaboration: Working closely with other mechanics, equipment operators, and the departmental leadership to address issues and optimize equipment performance
Documentation: Keeping up to date with service manuals and industry standards, as well as recommending equipment improvements and upgrades
Problem-Solving: Analyzing complex mechanical issues and developing effective solutions to ensure minimal downtime of equipment
Emergency Repairs: Responding to breakdowns and providing emergency repair services as needed to ensure the equipment is back in operation quickly
Qualification
Required
Proven experience as a mechanic for heavy equipment and trucks
Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Must own necessary tools for performing repairs and maintenance
Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently
Must have a CDL
Preferred
Documented certifications in relevant fields are a plus
