Data Engineer Summer 2026 Intern

Responsibilities
Engage with various teams within the specific department related to the internship, as well as throughout the University, to gain exposure and hands-on experience in their field of study; actively participate in a wide range of opportunities to apply practical knowledge to current business situations
Collect, analyze, and present findings in related areas using opportunities to apply practical knowledge and gain exposure to working with various levels of colleagues throughout the University
Participate in work groups to broaden knowledge and enhance skills
Perform research and provide actionable recommendations in work-related areas
Perform other duties as assigned or apparent
Collaborate with team members to work on at least one project associated with processing data and building data pipelines
Work with middleware and back-end data engineering technologies in designing and developing enterprise solutions with cloud technologies
Work with product teams to assist with ad-hoc data requests, data exploration and building business knowledge models
Share personal knowledge gained through classroom and work experience to bring forward potential solutions to enhance current business processes
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a degree in a field related to focus of internship: Information Technology or Information System. Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or Information Systems OR have graduated with a related degree in the past 12 months
Able to commit to the internship position for a minimum of 3 months (May 18, 2026 - August 14, 2026), with the possibility of an extension
Able to commit to 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) in a virtual environment free from distraction
Familiarity with the following: To build and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes
To develop and maintain data infrastructure systems, including data warehouses and data lakes
To create infrastructure as a code using Terraform
Writing complex SQL queries
Scripting languages like Python, Node JS, JavaScript
AWS Cloud Platform services like AWS S3, AWS Lambda, Glue, Managed Airflow, IAM, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, MSK, Kafka, Apache Airflow
Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and create mapping documents
Explore ways to optimize data pipelines and systems for performance and scalability
Participate in troubleshooting data pipeline and system issues
Create and maintain documentation of data architecture, data pipelines, and data systems
Good problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ready to take on tasks and open to learn
