Infrastructure Engineer - System and Network Admin
SII Group USA is recruiting an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support one of their major customers operating enterprise-grade datacenters in Austin and Houston, Texas. The role involves system administration, datacenter operations, incident response, and on-call support within a 24/7 managed services framework.
Responsibilities
Administer and troubleshoot Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments
Perform OS lifecycle management, patching, upgrades, and performance tuning
Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and related core services
Automate repetitive tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
Assist with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM
Racking and stacking servers, network appliances, and storage systems
Perform structured copper and fiber cabling work, labeling, and patch panel operations
Troubleshoot and replace hardware components (NICs, disks, memory, PSUs, etc.)
Manage PDUs, console access, and datacenter KVM equipment
Maintain an accurate inventory of the customer’s hardware and assets
Follow the customer’s datacenter security, access, and compliance requirements
Investigate and resolve incidents affecting compute, storage, or network services
Perform root cause analysis and propose long-term corrective actions
Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to support the customer’s operations
Work closely with SII Group USA experts, customer teams, and external vendors
Provide clear, timely communication during critical incidents and post-incident reviews
Support and troubleshoot Cisco switching and routing (VLANs, trunks, LACP, STP, routing basics)
Implement and validate firewall changes on Fortinet (FortiGate) appliances
Assist with IPsec/SSL VPN configuration and connectivity troubleshooting
Adhere to the customer’s change management and security policies
Maintain and update runbooks, diagrams, checklists, and technical documentation
Participate in change management processes (CAB reviews, approvals, scheduling)
Contribute to process improvements, automation efforts, and monitoring enhancements
Deliver consistent, high-quality service aligned with SII Group USA standards and customer expectations
Qualification
Required
4–7 years of experience in infrastructure engineering or system administration
Strong proficiency in both Linux and Windows Server administration
Solid hands-on experience with Cisco routing/switching
Practical experience with Fortinet (FortiGate) firewalls: policies, NAT, VPNs, HA
Familiarity with datacenter physical work (racking, cabling, hardware replacement)
Scripting (PowerShell/Bash/Python) for task automation
Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM virtualization platforms
Experience with backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik) is a plus
Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills
Ability to stay calm and structured during high-severity incidents
Autonomous, organized, and able to manage issues end-to-end
Strong documentation habits and attention to operational detail
Based in Austin or Houston with the ability to reach the customer's datacenter within SLA-defined timeframes
Willingness to participate in a compensated 24/7 on-call rotation
Ability to lift datacenter equipment (20–25 kg / 45–55 lbs)
Ability to pass background checks required for accessing the customer's sites
Valid driver's license for occasional inter-site travel if needed
Preferred
Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, MCSA/MCSE, VMware VCP, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet NSE (NSE4 or higher)
Experience in managed services, hosting providers, or multi-site datacenter environments
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) or monitoring platforms (Zabbix, PRTG, Prometheus)
