Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic

Gettysburg National Military Park is a National Park Service Unit dedicated to preserving and interpreting the resources associated with the Battle of Gettysburg. The Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic will perform building and utility maintenance and operation duties, utilizing journeyman knowledge and skills in various trades.

Responsibilities

Performs multi-trade maintenance, repair, construction, and preventive maintenance work across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and roofing in support of historic and contemporary structures
Installs, maintains, and repairs building components such as plumbing fixtures, piping, valves, electrical fixtures, switches, receptacles, and lighting systems
Performs carpentry tasks such as constructing, repairing, modifying, installing, or replacing structural components, rough and finish carpentry elements, doors, windows, trim, and flooring
Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, work orders, technical manuals, and building codes to plan, layout, and complete assigned work
Performs work in accordance with OSHA safety standards, building codes, NPS preservation standards, and established trade practices while protecting cultural resources and ensuring safe operation of building systems

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Drivers License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record
You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
Vehicle Operations: You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided
Work Schedule: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc
Knowledge of materials
Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Experience must demonstrate independent performance of routine maintenance mechanic duties in at least two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Masonry, or Roofing
