The ADA/504 Compliance Officer is a leadership role, responsible for oversight of UC San Diego’s compliance program with disability laws and regulations
The incumbent will develop/refine an effective compliance program and work closely with campus/Health partners having responsibility for compliance with disability laws and regulations
The ADA/504 Compliance Officer has expert knowledge of disability laws and regulations and provides guidance, direction, interpretation and recommendations
The incumbent is able to develop strong relationships with all levels of management and administrators, including faculty
The incumbent has excellent interpersonal skills, and is able to communicate complex legal/regulatory matters in a clear and concise manner
Qualification
Required
Thorough knowledge of disability-related laws and policies and related procedures, including without limitation, the Americans with Disabilities Act and of Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, CA Fair Employment & Housing Act, Section 139.5 of the CA State Labor Code, and Rules and Regulations determined by the Rehabilitation Unit of OBD (Sections 4635 through 4647 and Section 49, 5410), Labor Code Section 132A, CA Family Rights Act, U.S. Family and Medical Leave Act, and Pregnancy Leave Act
Experience advising at all levels of the organization with the ability to foster collaborative and collegial working relationships with the UC Office of the President and the UC San Diego community
Excellent interpersonal skills to work independently with all levels of University personnel, including management and faculty, and to facilitate agreement on issues and corrective actions
Ability to communicate complex information to all levels of management and administrators in a clear and concise manner both written and verbal
Excellent skills in complex decision making on critical issues
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills to convey technical and complex information in a clear and concise manner to all levels of the organization
Ability to explain, negotiate, and persuade in a concise and collegial manner and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to design, organize, and present a training program effectively
Demonstrated ability to complete complex analyses of case facts, applicable policy, and applicable law, to provide recommendations regarding reasonable accommodations and accessibility. Demonstrated ability and experience in problem-identification and problem-solving techniques
Knowledge and skill to negotiate with agencies in relation to their functions and jurisdiction
Experience with fact-finding and ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment, discretion, and sensitivity in handling disability-related matters
