Responsibilities

Meets with clients’ technical staff to develop acceptable processes and control features
Conducts field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information
Prepares equipment specifications
Communicates process design to client and other design disciplines
Participates in process safety reviews
Prepares operators instruction manuals
Participates in preparation of contract proposals

Required

Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of independent judgment for the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation of standard process engineering methods and procedures
Normally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical Engineering and or Pulp and Paper Engineering
Requires a minimum of 10-20 years' experience in Process/Design Engineering or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience)
This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design tools
Significant experience as a lead process engineer on capital projects is required
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site
This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required

Preferred

Some experience working in a Paper Mill environment is preferred
Registration as a licensed professional engineer is highly preferred (or be willing to obtain registration)
Design engineering experience with the following: Material Handling – chipping, feeders, screening, washing, conveying, storage, stack/reclaim
Design engineering experience with the following: Recycled Fibers – material handling, screening, cleaning, rejects handling, agglomeration, dispersion, flotation, chemical systems, water systems
Design engineering experience with the following: Pulping & Bleaching – cooking, mechanical, washing, screening, blow heat & NCG, causticizing, bleaching, safety
Design engineering experience with the following: Papermaking – stock prep, paper machines, additives, finishing, roll handling for grades (liner, medium, coated board, printing/writing, recycled, pulp machines)
Design engineering experience with the following: Power & Recovery – recovery boiler, power boiler, turbines, feedwater systems, cooling towers, evaporators, concentrators, environmental
Specific Preferences: WinGEMS process modeling
Specific Preferences: TAPPI paper machine drive studies
Specific Preferences: Headbox replacement project experience
