Patient Service Representative

The University of Missouri-Columbia's Student Health Center is seeking a Patient Service Representative to provide high-quality, accessible health services to students. The role involves greeting patients, managing appointments, and ensuring a smooth check-in and check-out process while collaborating with healthcare providers and addressing patient needs.

Responsibilities

Greeting patients and visitors
Working the registration desk
Arriving patients
Updating demographics
Loading insurance
Accepting copayments
Performing data entry
Scheduling appointments
Assisting patients during checkout after provider visits
Scheduling follow-ups with SHC when needed
Coordinating referrals to outside providers
Notifying providers when a patient has no-showed
Updating the scheduling system accordingly
Contacting patients whose appointments must be rescheduled due to provider schedule changes
Collecting payments for students needing rabies titers or a second STI screen
Managing after-hours nursing reports
Answering the main phone line
Helping cover other PSR positions
Cross-training to assist in other areas of our center and may help with off-site events
Collaborating with patients, families, and/or staff to address and resolve any issues that arise during the visit
Communicating any expected delays to patients and ancillary service departments
Greeting and escorting patients
Answering the phone system
Handling and/or directing calls to the appropriate area
Placing calls as requested by the supervisor
Maintaining the general appearance of the waiting room, reception area, and offices
Validating patient demographics, insurance, pre-certification, prior authorization, and referrals
Accurately managing copay collections
Performing patient check-in and check-out, batching, scheduling, bumping, cancelling, and marking no-shows
Effectively utilizing computer applications

Required

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired
Six (6) months of experience with frontline customer service and guest relations duties and skills

Preferred

Prior experience in a health care setting, hospital admissions, registration, medical office, and use of medical terminology strongly preferred
