PRODUCTION MACHINERY MECHANIC LEADER

NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD is seeking a PRODUCTION MACHINERY MECHANIC LEADER to oversee the Tool Room and Equipment Maintenance Branch. The role involves providing training, planning work tasks, and ensuring efficient operations in production facilities.

Responsibilities

You will provide on the job training for workers under your leadership, correcting improper machinist work methods, ensuring assigned work procedures are being followed
You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches and work documents, to plan and execute the sequence of work tasks
You will take appropriate action to prevent and/or overcome bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns, assure that proper types and amount of equipment are at the job site
You will maintain computer records of expended man hours, closing out jobs when complete

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program

This is a bargaining unit position
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
Experience installing and repairing more complex equipment and machinery such as lathes, and automatic screw machine
Experience troubleshooting, determining extent of repairs, parts needed, and time required to make repairs
Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, factory specifications, and blueprints
Experience performing precision hand work such as scraping, lapping, and honing to attain proper finished and alignment of machine parts
Experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, and maintaining complex production and some non-production equipment and machinery
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements
