Responsibilities

Hand-trim and refine greenware pottery, removing seams, rough spots, and imperfections to ensure a smooth, even surface prior to bisque firing

Use a variety of hand tools, sponges, and techniques to shape, smooth, and finish pieces according to established standards and style guides

Inspect each piece for defects, cracks, or irregularities, and follow proper procedures for rework, scrap, or escalation to a lead or supervisor

Meet daily production expectations while maintaining MacKenzie-Childs’ quality standards for craftsmanship and consistency

Handle pieces carefully to minimize damage and maintain integrity of the product throughout the finishing process

Maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition

Follow all safety, PPE, and housekeeping guidelines, including proper handling of materials, dust, and equipment

Assist with basic upkeep of shared workspaces to support an efficient, team-focused production environment

Accurately record labor, piece counts, and other required information in production or timekeeping systems

Follow established procedures for labeling, tracking, and routing finished greenware to the next stage of production

Required

High school diploma or GED

Ability to use hand tools applicable to trade

Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures

Attention to detail

Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach, push, pull, lift, crouch, kneel, bend, use fingers to grasp, handle, feel, and perform repetitive motions of hands or wrists

Exerts up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects

Moderate mental and visual attention required for performing manual work, machine operations, set-ups, inspections, and adjustments that require frequent decisions to detect and adjust for variance from proper operation
