Deputy Associate Laboratory Director, Photon Sciences
Argonne National Laboratory is a leading research facility, and they are seeking a Deputy Associate Laboratory Director for the Photon Sciences Directorate. The role involves overseeing strategic programs in science and technology, developing partnerships, and leading initiatives to enhance X-ray science capabilities.

Responsibilities
Partner with the Associate Laboratory Director to develop and implement strategic plans that align with PSC and the APS's mission and goals
Responsible for an ambitious R&D portfolio in X-ray science and technology including the rapid deployment of AI methods to accelerate scientific discovery
Responsible for partnering activities at PSC and APS, including the scientific coordination of Collaborative Access Teams
Support the development and execution of major projects and initiatives, including facility upgrades and expansions
Provide scientific oversight for new major beamline projects, or Major Item of Equipment projects
Collaborate with leaders inside and outside the Laboratory to cultivate and create new partnerships with industry, DOE, academia, and other stakeholders to build strategic collaborations and amplify the Laboratory’s capabilities and S&T breakthroughs in X-ray science
Partners with the laboratory deputy director for science and technology and peers in other Argonne directorates on major lab initiatives
Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, and forming relationships to broaden or deepen partner commitments and achieve outcome metrics
Support the development of the research part of laboratory annual plan and participates in internal reviews of new laboratory initiatives
Responsible for conducting periodic scientific evaluation of the APS facility and coordinating reviews with APS advisory bodies, particularly the Science Advisory Committee
Engage with U.S. light source deputies for science to coordinate science and technology strategies where appropriate
Mentor and develop future scientific leaders, promoting professional growth and excellence
Qualification
Required
Ph.D. in physical sciences or life sciences
Strong understanding of synchrotron radiation science and its applications
Extensive, successful experience at large-scale scientific facilities
Proven track record of leadership and experience of strategic planning in a scientific environment
Comprehensive organizational, leadership and managerial skills
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
Ability to model Argonne's core values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork
Interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact with people at all levels both within and outside the laboratory
