Responsibilities

Mobilize volunteers and activists to support issues on AARP Vermont’s 2026 Legislative Agenda
Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help promote policy issues on family caregiving, health and welfare, fraud prevention, and retirement security
Engage in the communications strategies to advance these issues and the events organized as part of these efforts
Draft documents to support our advocacy efforts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate in communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person events
Attend legislative committee meetings at the Vermont State House
Report on committee discussion and support direct outreach to elected officials

Required

Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and must remain academically enrolled throughout the internship, or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
Passionate about AARP's mission of supporting Vermonter to choose how they live as they age
Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
Ability to thoughtfully operationalize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles in day-to-day work
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Regular and reliable job attendance
Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships
Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds

Preferred

Familiarity with creating and editing graphics and videos
Knowledge of social media platforms
