Postdoctoral Appointee – Advanced Detector Design and Simulation (HEP/NP)
Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral appointee focused on advanced detector design and simulation for high-energy and nuclear physics experiments. Responsibilities
Elicit and define requirements and performance specifications for future HEP/NP detector systems
Perform detector concept development, system-level design, and optimization leveraging emerging computing architectures and novel device technologies
Develop, validate, and maintain simulation and modeling frameworks for detector performance, characterization, and benchmarking
Analyze simulation results and experimental data to guide intelligent data processing strategies and inform detector and readout device design
Work collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team and contribute to publications and presentations in high-impact venues
Qualification
Required
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field of High Energy Physics or Nuclear Physics, or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated experience with HEP or NP detector design and simulation
Proficiency in scientific software development (e.g., C/C++, Python, or similar languages)
Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
Preferred
Hands-on experience with GEANT4-based simulations
Experience with detector characterization and validation
Familiarity with HEP/NP data processing, reconstruction, and analysis workflows
Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary research environments
