Chair, Department of Sociology
Texas State University is seeking a Chair for the Department of Sociology, who will also serve as a faculty member at the rank of Professor. The Chair will lead the department, manage its resources, and promote faculty and student development while ensuring high-quality instructional programs and community engagement.

Responsibilities
Academic and administrative leadership in the department
Recruitment, retention, and evaluation of distinguished faculty who bring varied backgrounds, perspectives, and a commitment to institutional excellence
Promotion of professional development for faculty and staff
Promotion of a supportive student learning environment that maintains academic rigor and offers a professional training environment for students conducive to professional growth and success
Increasing scholarly and grant activity
Providing high-quality instructional programs
Advising, recruitment, and retention of students from a variety of backgrounds
Facilitation of strategic planning
Preparation, monitoring, and execution of the departmental budget
Oversight of curriculum and student degree plans
Effective collaboration with campus stakeholders
Effective collaboration with community stakeholders
Resource development activities
Qualification
Required
PhD in Sociology or a related field
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting
Experience in faculty recruitment, retention, and evaluation
Commitment to diversity and inclusion in academic environments
Strong record of scholarly activity and grant acquisition
Experience in curriculum development and academic program management
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders
Experience in budget preparation and management
Preferred
Experience as a department chair or in a similar leadership role
Experience in online program development
Strong commitment to community engagement and service
