Senior Laboratory Technician

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) provides essential water, wastewater, and solid waste management services to over two million residents in North Texas. They are seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to perform routine water lab analyses, assist with workload management, and ensure timely completion of analyses while adhering to safety and quality guidelines.

Responsibilities

Performs routine chemical and/or biological analyses on water, wastewater, and related samples as assigned, which include: pH, total and ortho phosphates, total hardness, total alkalinities, chlorine residuals, turbidities, coliform analysis, biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids and other related water / wastewater lab analyses
Prepares and maintains an adequate stock of chemical solutions and standards
Operates lab specific software, and prepares forms / benchsheet for daily operations
Performs first line of data review to insure accuracy of data and associated information
Maintains equipment in laboratory to ensure the accuracy of measurements and the proper cleanliness and functional operation of that piece of equipment
Adheres to guidelines set out by methods, SOP’s, OM’s, and general lab practice policies
Keeps work area clean and free of clutter
Assists other laboratory personnel with their workload as needed to ensure analysis is completed in a timely manner. Assist in a manner that is most advantageous and efficient in performance of given tasks
Observes safe work practices through the use of proper safety precautions and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field. Four years of laboratory experience may be substituted for degree
Must possess a high school diploma or GED
Requires a valid Texas Driver's License
Must be capable of understanding analytical procedures and duties to be performed
Must develop degree of competence with analyses being performed, giving careful attention to details
Must be able to operate and maintain equipment to be used
Must have sufficient mathematical ability
Must be able to use a computer
Weekend and holiday work required
