Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV - Digital Delivery - Design Division - Austin, TX

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join their innovative Digital Delivery Section. This role involves performing complex transportation engineering work across various functional areas, ensuring compliance with laws and standards, and contributing to the development of the Digital Delivery Program to enhance Texas’ infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Assist with development of processes, procedures, and pilots for design, construction, hydraulics, environmental, bridge, traffic, letting, etc. for TxDOT's Digital Delivery Program
Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility
Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Assists project managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines
Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation
Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy
Performs and/or documents in-house research studies
Provides technical expertise in planning, coordinating, maintaining and operating traffic management systems TxDOT's transportation system
Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation
Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support
Evaluates the performance of new transportation products software
Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers
Provides design engineering support for districts in project development
Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects
Develops technical presentations and represents TxDOT
Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations
Develops and makes presentations and represents TxDOT
Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules, monitors consultants' progress and work quality, checks invoices and associated documents, prepares supplemental agreements, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, as consultant project manager

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer II
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer III
7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer IV
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
TX Licensed Prof Engineer
Safety Impact Certificate
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
Transportation principles and methods for moving people or goods by multimodal (road, air, water) methods, including their relative costs, advantages and limitations
Construction phasing and sequencing
Highway construction design applications
Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction
Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
Cost estimating and cost controls
Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused
Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory
Construction engineering policies and procedures
Environmental engineering as it relates to transportation
