Engineering Internship Opportunities Summary Employment
The State of Delaware Department of Transportation is seeking engineering interns to support their mission of providing safe travel choices. Interns will gain practical experience in various engineering specialties under direct supervision for approximately 12 weeks.

Responsibilities
Perform various duties that are directly related to their academic major
Assist inspectors, prepare daily reports, track quantities, draft plans and update construction details utilizing CADD, prepare work orders for various open-end contracts, research archive plans and easements, prepare detour plans, review specifications and construction details, perform hydraulic analysis, support operations during weather events, and other similar tasks to support day-to-day operations
Laboratory testing of various road construction materials such as aggregate, soil, concrete and asphalt materials
Proper use of laboratory testing equipment which includes balances, screening machines, splitters, ovens, temperature measuring devices, specific gravity testing equipment and various hot mix asphalt concrete testing equipment
Assist hot mix plant inspection personnel in their various duties
Field testing of Portland Cement Concrete which includes testing for temperature, slump, air content and the making of compressive test cylinders
Field inspection of precast concrete elements used in road construction such as inlets, manholes, reinforced concrete pipe, culverts and other transportable concrete elements
Assist in the video inspection of storm-water drainage systems
Proper documentation of all inspection and testing activities
Data entry of inspection findings and test results
Work with staff in performing design-related engineering activities as part of the development of road design plans, including working with CADD and highway design software, cost estimating, and other related road design activities
Qualification
Required
Be at least 18 years of age or older
Have completed their freshman year seeking their bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction engineering
Maintain at least a 2.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale
