Sr. Mgr. Design Engineering - F135 HPC Design (Onsite)

Pratt & Whitney is working to transform the future of flight once again designing, building and servicing engines unlike any the world has ever seen. The Sr. Design Discipline Manager of the F135 Engine High Pressure Compressor will oversee a team of design engineers, promote technical excellence, and support both new engine production and fielded engines.

Responsibilities

Manage a team of five to eight design engineers. The team includes a mix of direct reports located in West Palm Beach, FL in addition to indirect design engineers located at other P&W sites and outsource companies
Talent development and mentorship of the design team as well as develop staffing plans and strategies with the Associate Director, including writing Inter-divisional Work Authorizations (IDWAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs)
Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, with no oversight
Review and approve product definition (prints and models) and Engineering Changes that authorize updates to engine manuals
Chair product reviews, including documentation of meeting minutes, assigning action items, and reviewing actions item closures
Utilize and approve standard work completed by subordinate engineers and utilize CORE tools to continuously improve the design process

Required

Bachelor's degree in STEM or Mechanical Aerospace Engineering with 10+ years' Mechanical Design engineering experience, OR, advanced degree with 7+ years' Mechanical Design engineering experience required
Experience with gas turbines is required
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred

Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years of compressor design experience that demonstrates an understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative
Previous experience in a leadership position
Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines
