Assistant Director, Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies
Claremont McKenna College is seeking an Assistant Director for the Keck Center for International and Strategic Studies. The role involves assisting the Director in managing programs, events, fundraising, and supervising student workers while representing the Center in various capacities.

Responsibilities
Supervise research fellows, student volunteers and student employees. This involves mentoring students representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, and religions and managing and evaluating their work
Act as a deputy to the Director, aiding the Director at the Center’s biannual board meetings and facilitating programmatic and fundraising work. At times this will also include public speaking, interfacing with the public at events, maintaining relationships with prospective donors and existing benefactors
Maintain communications with current and prospective board members. In consultation with the Director, produce the materials and compose the minutes for board meetings
Assist with fundraising by providing research and analysis to the Director about grant opportunities and other potential sources of funding for the Center
Assist the Director to manage key programs of the Center such as the research fellowships and summer internships, which may entail establishing partnerships and negotiating contracts with external organizations (including securing MOUs with partners), soliciting and reviewing applications, and interviewing students. Approve student budgets and administer stipend and travel payments. Working with the Soll Center staff, the Director, and Center faculty affiliates, correspond with students and support the students’ presentation of research and internship experiences on campus
Assist in the implementation of student facing programs, lecture series, academic travel, collaborations with other campus centers and institutes, student research projects, task forces and invitational scholars
Support the Senior Program Coordinator as needed with tasks related to financial records for the Center including tracking purchases, accounts payable, travel expenses and payroll for student assistants. Be proficient in Workday or equivalent programs to assist as needed with budget reports and reconciliations
Assist in the preparation of annual reports, donor (stewardship) updates and other communications as requested by CMC Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing
Ensure the Center’s website is current, disseminate publicity materials, and assist in creation of brochures, newsletters and other related documents. Remain current in website management across multiple platforms
Manage logistics of student research and other special projects and initiatives
Handle sensitive and confidential materials with discretion
Manage the Center’s library space and digital and print resources, including utilization of media resources
Edit scholarly documents on behalf of the Center and help prepare such materials for publication
Consult with the College’s Office of Institutional Philanthropy and Sponsored Research to identify potential grant opportunities and assist with drafting and submitting applications for foundational funding
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or commensurate education and/or experience is required
Two to three years of related experience in program administration, preferably at an institution of higher learning or research institute is required
Must have excellent writing skills in English, including business English
Must have exceptional organizational ability
Must have exceptional supervisory ability
Must be able to work independently, manage events and meet deadlines
Must have excellent oral communication, research, technical, and problem-solving skills
Must be proficient in the following applications/abilities: Word, Google Forms, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, YouTube, Adobe Publishing suite, WordPress web design, Wix, Squarespace, and Workday
Must have a genuine commitment to continual learning and creative problem solving
A valid driver's license or equivalent alternate form of transportation to off-site meetings and events is required
Preferred
International experience preferred
Knowledge of major trends and developments in international politics is preferred
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the College is preferred
