Lead Public Safety Dispatcher

Responsibilities

Distribute and balance workload; provide guidance/training to staff as needed
Receive and evaluate 911 emergency calls
Identify the determinant and level of response and provide this information and any additional information to the responding units
Transfer caller to proper agency as determined or dispatch a variety of emergency equipment to include police, rescue or hazardous material unit
Provide assistance to medical, police and fire personnel by acting as liaison between department personnel and other agencies

The incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays. Subject to callback, on call and mandatory overtime as mission requires
The incumbent may be required to wear a uniform
Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time
The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment
Newly hired personnel are required to obtain and maintain the certifications outlined in this section within one year of employment
Incumbent is required to possess and maintain certification in CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch System, DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness, DoD Telecommunications I/II, ALERTS, NCIC, and Wisconsin Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TIME)
TDY up to 5% required
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social)
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application
One year of specialized experience which includes: Operating dispatching, communications and automation systems; Processing incoming emergency/non-emergency call requests for fire, medical and/or police assistance; Coordinating emergency services with law enforcement/emergency response agencies; Providing/explaining guidance on emergency service dispatching policies/procedures
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)
One and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Disaster Management or related field of study
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration

One year trial/probationary period may be required
