Project Architect (Cincinnati/Columbus, Ohio or Greensboro, North Carolina)

As a Project Architect, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the vision and execution of projects across education, civic, and workplace markets, collaborating closely with clients and internal teams to create functional and meaningful buildings.
Architecture & Planning
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the architectural design and documentation process through all project phases - from concept and schematic design to construction documents and administration
Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, consultants, and project stakeholders
Coordinate with internal engineering, interior design, and planning teams to ensure integrated and cohesive project delivery
Oversee quality control, code compliance, and constructability of all deliverables
Manage project schedules, budgets, and staffing in collaboration with project managers and firm leadership
Mentor and guide junior architects and designers; review their work and help support their growth
Conduct site visits, respond to RFIs and submittals, and participate in construction administration tasks
Support and contribute to design excellence by promoting thoughtful, creative, and sustainable solutions
Help maintain and evolve SHP's design standards, processes, and best practices
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
Licensed Architect
Proven experience leading building projects through all phases of design and construction
Experience working on education, civic, or commercial/institutional buildings
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships
Familiarity with managing multiple projects or phases simultaneously
Proficiency in Revit and BIM workflows (required)
Strong understanding of codes, regulations, and permitting processes
Familiarity with sustainable design practices and LEED/green building strategies
Strong communication skills, including presenting to clients and facilitating team coordination
Ability to mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative studio culture
Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Willing and able to travel as needed, often with short notice
Preferred
NCARB certificate preferred or eligible
Experience with visualization tools (Enscape, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus
