Responsibilities
Teach Community & Public Health certificate and/or general education courses, based on expertise and qualifications. Teach day, evening, weekend, and/or in-person/online/hybrid classes. In-person teaching required for specific courses and programs
Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System to teach online, hybrid-online, and tech-enhanced courses
Teach diverse communities at various sites including CCSF Ocean Campus, CCSF Centers, SFUSD high schools, and the SF County Jail
Create a student-centered classroom and lesson plans that reflect approved department course outlines
Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limited to: developing a syllabus, grading, record-keeping, designing written lesson plans, classroom activities, related assignments, student learning outcome assessments, and using technology enhanced teaching
Evaluate student performance and progress through in-class observation, assignments, and tests
Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress
Be available and accessible to students when necessary including holding office hours
Respond to student disciplinary issues and work with supervisor and other appropriate campus offices to ensure that student and faculty rights are respected
Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
Submit census, attendance reports, grades and student learning outcomes, including supporting documentation, by the published deadlines
Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy
Submit textbook and course materials information by the published deadlines
Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, curriculum development, course revisions and course assessments
Support and engage in innovative, culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist teaching practices related to student success and student equity
Keep abreast of current information, concepts, policies, laws and ideas in the field and with best practices in teaching and learning
Participate in professional development and ongoing trainings on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
Earned Master's Degree in Health Science, Health Education, Biology, Nursing, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Dietetics, Nutrition, or Public Health from accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Earned Bachelor's Degree in any of the above from an accredited institution AND earned Master's Degree in any Biological Science from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990)
Earned Master's Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Earned Bachelor's Degree in the discipline of the assignment from an accredited institution AND a valid California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Counselor Credential (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990)
Preferred
Teaching experience in public health or related fields at the secondary and post-secondary level
Training experience in public health, behavioral health, community health, social service, educational, healthcare and/or clinical settings
Related professional experience in public health, behavioral health, clinical health and social service fields
Graduate work in health education, counseling, psychology, public health, social work and/or a valid unrestricted state license to practice independently as a mental health provider, LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, or Clinical Psychologist
Evidence of understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning)
Demonstrated ability to motivate learners from diverse backgrounds, especially non-traditional and underrepresented students
Experience with course development and assessment at the secondary or post-secondary level using culturally responsive pedagogy and equity-minded practices
Bi/multilingual, bi/multicultural
Relevant expertise and ability to teach content in one or more of the following areas: addiction and recovery, case management, client centered counseling, community assessment, community-based public health practice, cultural humility, doula education, ethics, family systems, group facilitation, health policy, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, prevention and maintenance of chronic health conditions, and wellness and recovery models
Healthcare Interpreting knowledge and experience including: 3 to 5 years of current healthcare interpreting experience, possession of a national healthcare interpreting certificate, biliterate, professional written translation experience, knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medications, and healthcare systems, Educational and social services interpreting experience
Excellent oral and written English communication skills
Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
