Professional Aide Project Pay
Michigan State University College of Engineering is seeking passionate and dedicated Trip Leaders for their Girls on Outdoor Adventure for Leadership and Science (GALS) program. The Trip Leaders will guide high school students through immersive outdoor experiences while leading hands-on lessons in ecology, earth science, and environmental topics.

Responsibilities
Lead up to 10 high school students on a 14-day backpacking trip in Michigan (Trip Prep July 22 - 24) Backpacking (July 25- Aug. 8, 2026)
Facilitate curriculum-based outdoor lessons and activities
Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning community
Collaborate with the program director and coordinator to ensure safety and success
Attend mandatory training May 16–17, 2026, plus any additional preparation sessions as scheduled
Maintain or obtain current WFR and CPR certifications (funded by the employer)
Qualification
Required
Ability to hike over varied terrain and carry up to 50 pounds
Strong organizational and time management skills
Valid driver's license and ability to drive 10-passenger vans (no more than 2 violations in the past 3 years; no major convictions in 5 years)
Enthusiasm for science, outdoor adventure, and youth mentorship
