Responsibilities

Culture and maintain a collection of cancer cell lines

Prepare samples and carry out biochemical and PCR-based assays

Perform drug efficacy studies in mice

Prepare tissue sections for histology work

Analyze data from assays using various software packages

Work both independently and as part of a team

Required

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience

5 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and work experience)

Prior experience with small animal handling is required

Preferred

Master's degree in a related scientific field preferred

Experience working with cancer mouse models is preferred

Experience with tissue culture and standard molecular biological techniques (DNA and RNA extraction), protein isolation and analysis (gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.), and microbiology techniques preferred

The technician must show initiative, willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player

Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential to success in this position, as are good communication, responsiveness to feedback, and organizational skills

Flexible and willing to work some evenings and weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive experiments
