BH Graduate Student Intern 2nd Year - OPT (Sept 2026)

Fenway Health is a leading organization in behavioral health services, and they are seeking a Graduate Student Intern to provide clinical support and services within their Behavioral Health Department. The intern will engage in direct clinical services, participate in intern programming, and adhere to agency policies while gaining valuable experience in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Provides direct clinical services to clients:
Using established therapeutic processes, provides intake/diagnostic evaluations for new clients, offers short-term therapy to BH clients, and co-facilitates group therapy for BH clients
Builds and maintains a caseload of 14-15 clients
Must be on site to offer clinical hours (individual and/or group) between 5-7pm at least 2 evenings a week (M/T/W/Th)
All clinical hours must be provided from on-site at 1340 Boylston St., though some of these sessions may be conducted via telehealth
Adheres to NASW Code of Ethics
Performs and completes clinical documentation/administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner:
Documents each client interaction within departmental window of compliance (48 hours), for review and co-signature by Intern Supervisor
Completes diagnostic evaluations, treatment plans, treatment plan updates, session notes, group notes, assessments, and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policy
Writes a collaborative treatment plan by the 4th treatment session
Provides consultation to and collaborates with the other health care providers who constitute a client’s health care team
Participate in Intern Programming:
Participates in regularly scheduled individual supervision, 1 hour per week
Including audio/written process recording activities as requested
Attends and contributes to Intern Group Supervision, 2 hours per week
Attends and contributes to Group Facilitator Supervision Meeting, 1 hour per month
Participates in regularly scheduled Group Co-Facilitation Supervision, 0.5 hours per week
Attends Outpatient Psychotherapy Team meetings, 1 hour twice per month
Participates in Intern Didactic Training Seminars, 1 hour per week
Attends on-site Department Meetings, quarterly
Meets Agency Participatory Expectations
Adheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures as appropriate, including but not limited to the following, as not doing so would result in termination of internship:

Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
Adheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentiality

Attends all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
Attends all regularly scheduled research meetings, trainings, forums and pertinent FCH staff meetings
Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
Performs other related duties as required

Required

Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling)
Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask
1 (academic) year of individual counseling with clients and/or related experience, at minimum
Successful completion of graduate level course work focused on understanding human behavior, basic counseling theoretical frameworks, and basic diagnostic assessments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse team
Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
Ability to demonstrate emotional regulation of self, foresee impacts of emotional expressions on others (peers, colleagues, and patients), and modulate emotional expression accordingly to support rapport building and professionalism in shared workspaces
Ability to receive, process and respond to feedback in both individual and group supervision spaces

Preferred

Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environments
Previous advocacy/case management experience
Previous experience working or interning in outpatient therapy settings
Experience with LGBTQIA+ issues, HIV, and trauma
Experience with substance use disorders, short-term interventions, and group work
