Responsibilities

Developing and facilitating comprehensive health and safety training for students, advisors, and staff

Leading prevention education efforts focused on alcohol and substance misuse, hazing, and sexual violence prevention

Advising student organizations on risk management, event planning, and compliance with university and CSU policies

Managing event registration and policy implementation for off-campus activities

Collecting and analyzing data to inform policy, enhance safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations

Supporting university-wide programs such as Welcome Week, Aztec Nights, and leadership development events

Supervising student assistants and contributing to division-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

Required

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related

Possession of the below required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems

A master's degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience

A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling

Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regarding the maintenance of academic and judicial records of individual students

Understanding of reporting responsibilities outlined for a 'Responsible Employee' and 'Campus Security Authority' under Title IX and the Jeanne Clery Act

Ability to learn and apply Title V, CSU policies and procedures, and University rules and regulations as they relate to student organizations, activities, expression, and governance structures

Experience advising and counseling students in academic and co-curricular settings, including event planning and program advising at the collegiate level

Experience developing, implementing, and assessing leadership, cultural, and student programs

Thorough understanding of student development theories and best practices in Student Affairs, including student life and fraternity and sorority life

Experience managing fiscal resources and supervising student staff

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including facilitation, public speaking, consensus building, and conflict mediation

Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, student organizations, and campus partners such as Residential Education, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, and Associated Students
