Education Intern

The National Audubon Society is a leading nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting birds and their habitats. The Conservation Education Intern will assist in various aspects of the Center for Birds of Prey education program, focusing on bird conservation and engaging with the community through educational programming and events.

Responsibilities

The Education intern will have the opportunity to learn and gain valuable skills as it relates to operations of a nature center, developing content for programs, program delivery, marketing, and social media
Assist with the teaching of environmental education programs to school groups both on and offsite
Act as lead counselor for our spring break and summer camp programs
Help with the planning, set-up, and implementation of any special events or fundraisers taking place during this time period, including the Center’s annual Baby Owl Shower event and Rainbow Raptors pride event
Assist with the creation, implementation and surveying of educational programming, including Raptor Camp
Help with marketing programs to schools and other target audiences
Aid in making the Center more accessible and inclusive
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of education volunteers
Assist with social media marketing through use of the Center’s Facebook and Instagram

Required

Completion of at least two years of college coursework in environmental or life sciences, or science education
Teaching experience to both children and adults
Confident in leading a group and initiating activities, working independently, and team teaching
Comfortable with public speaking to small or large groups
Comfortable taking initiative in controlling and supervising groups of children during high-energy activities
Strong work ethic, self-motivated, flexibility, a desire to learn, and the ability to work well with others
A valid driver's license is required in order to transport staff, birds and/or materials to education programs as needed
Positive attitude and commitment to conservation

Writing experience preferred
