Responsibilities
Lead and conduct reviews of civil, architectural, and engineering designs, specifications, and construction plans to ensure compliance with ADA, ABAAS, and other accessibility regulations
Perform field inspections, audits, and on-site assessments of WMATA stations, facilities, and infrastructure to verify accessibility compliance
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to integrate accessibility solutions and resolve field-related compliance issues
Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and recommendations for corrective actions on non-compliant elements
Advise project teams on best practices for accessible design, construction, and execution
Develop and support quality assurance procedures to ensure accessibility compliance throughout all project phases, including design, construction, and closeout
Stay current with federal, state, and local accessibility standards and regulations, and apply them to project planning and execution
Support training and awareness initiatives to promote ADA compliance across project teams
Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Minimum 5–10 years of experience in civil engineering, ADA compliance, accessibility review, or quality assurance for public infrastructure or transit projects (8–10 years preferred for senior-level roles)
Strong knowledge and in-depth understanding of ADA, ABAAS, UFAS, and other accessibility guidelines
Proficiency in civil engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; resulting in proper documentation, reporting, and use of field inspection tools
Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations effectively
Preferred
Experience working on WMATA or similar transit agency projects highly preferred
Certification as an Accessibility Specialist (e.g., CASp, ADA Coordinator Training Certification)
