Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of a strategic communications program in support of institutional strategic priorities, long-term goals and objectives relating to media relations, institutional initiatives, and special projects
Assist with writing and production of NYU Langone Healths daily Executive Digest
Prepare reports and maintain documentation regarding media relations activities consistent with office policy and procedures (e.g., Cision, metrics, Inside Health)
Research health issues in the news and associated reporters who cover varied health areas. Prepare messaging, pitch letters and other documents as needed
Help identify and pitch topics/experts for news stories
Update and maintain media contact lists through media specific software (Cision)
Work closely with team to organize and staff media on interviews/filming on-site as necessary
Draft press releases, contingency statements, talking points, Q&As, bios, social media copy, web site copy, and other materials as assigned
Assist team on media metrics activities and collaborating with the analytics team as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Working towards a bachelors or masters degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, science, English, or communications
Some familiarity with health care, marketing, public relations, or communications
Proven track record of school success
Excellent writing and editing skills a must
Knowledge and strong interest in media
Ability to identify news worthiness of issues and gauge appropriateness of topics for coverage in specific media outlets
Enthusiastic, proactive, high-energy personality
Able to juggle multiple projects and follow through to completion; a problem-solver
Strong oral and interpersonal communications skills
Shows excellent judgment
Professional presence and demeanor
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Preferred
Strong skills in social media tools (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, etc.)
