Sr Claims Director

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a comprehensive claims strategy that is consistent across both internal teams and TPA partners. Ensure all claims handling aligns with company policies, financial goals, and service standards
Manage a blend of resources by overseeing internal claims teams while simultaneously managing the vendor relationship, performance, and compliance of the TPA
Lead, direct, and mentor internal claims management and staff
Act as the highest-level technical expert for both internal staff and the TPA on the most complex or high-exposure claims. This includes providing guidance on coverage analysis, liability assessment, and litigation strategy
Final authority over high-value claim settlements and reserve amounts for cases handled by both internal and TPA teams
Establish consistent Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and service-level agreements (SLAs) for both internal staff and the TPA. Monitor and report on these metrics to track performance, identify trends, and drive improvements
Implement and oversee robust quality assurance protocols for both the internal team and the TPA. Conduct regular file reviews and audits to ensure best practices are being followed, regardless of who is handling the claim
Collect, evaluate, and report on comprehensive claims data from all sources to identify trends, pinpoint areas of inefficiency, and advise senior leadership on strategic adjustments
Develop and manage budgets for claims handling, both internally and with the TPA. Ensure cost-effective use of resources, including legal counsel and third-party vendors
Present Claim results to the Governing Committee

Required

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university
10 or more years of commercial auto experience
Minimum of eight years of claims management experience
Concentration in long-haul trucking
Experience providing coverage analysis
Demonstrated property casualty claim technical expertise
Licensing in multiple states required
Experience leading teams and/or management/supervisory experience required
In-depth knowledge of the Insurance industry, claims, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change
Excellent organizational skills
Effective problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and interact professionally and effectively in a team environment
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office productivity tools (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred

Supplementary insurance education preferred
Previous experience with residual market automobile insurance plan rules and regulations preferred
