Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment which could require obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Assist senior drill rig operators through routine maintenance on all equipment to include repairs, greasing and lubrication of equipment
Operate drill rig equipment under the direct supervision of senior level drill rig operators
Operate Government Owned Vehicles which requires possessing and maintaining a State-issued Driver’s License and applies knowledge of health and safety principles to safely prepare and operate a variety of motor vehicle equipment
Apply technical and health and safety knowledge to safely prepare rigging for trailers and operate a variety of non-motor vehicles such as excavators, front end loaders, and forklifts
Provide support to Field Exploration Unit projects through knowledge of tools and drill equipment and their respective applications in order to meet quality standards and mission requirements

Required

Ability to do the work of a Drill Rig Operator Helper (MVO) without more than normal supervision
Performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical equipment and well pump systems
Operating diesel and gasoline powered vehicles including drill rigs and support vehicles, tractors, backhoes, and mowers
Performing routine maintenance on combustion-powered vehicles, equipment and mechanical or hydraulic systems to include troubleshooting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, components, and systems
Utilizing common tools
Required to participate in the Department of Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program to include passing a urinalysis drug testing prior to appointment and passing random urinalysis drug testing after appointment
Required to participate in the Medical Surveillance Program to include passing a physical examination prior to appointment and annually after appointment
Required to lift and frequently handle objects weighing 18 - 34 kilograms (40 to 75 pounds) and occasionally as much as 45 kilograms (100 pounds)
Heavy or awkward items are handled using hoists and other weight handling equipment, or with the aid of other employees
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation
Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel required 70 to 100% of the time
Work is conducted in the field up to 90% of the time
Work outside in all types of weather, frequently in wet, muddy, very cold or hot, and dirty condition, exposed to poison growth, reptiles, and insects and under noisy conditions
May perform drilling operations over water
Grease, oil, and other lubricants as well as fuels are present during operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and accessories
The employee may be exposed to a variety of health and safety hazards requiring the use of protective equipment and clothing such as respirators, safety glasses, shoes, hats, body suits, and harnesses
The employee may carry/wear equipment (i.e., air tanks, drill samples, etc.) up to 50 lbs. in weight
