The Michigan Army National Guard is seeking a TITLE 32 Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities. Responsibilities

Provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions

Participate with management officials in the planning and establishment of long-range work requirements and schedules

Serve as the highest-level subject matter expert in the organization for work accomplished

Plan overall allocation of personnel and resources for the organization

Ensure accomplishment of work operations which because of their scope, volume, and complexity are planned on a year or longer basis

Analyze work plans developed by subordinate supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders, projects, and the status of work accomplished

Explain work requirements to subordinate supervisors, set deadlines and sequence of operations

Coordinate and direct the work of units supervised

Balance workload for subordinate work groups

Recommend promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and review personnel actions prepared by supervisors

Make formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and review employee appraisals submitted by them

Develop, publish, and ensure employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised

Implement and comply with agency, state, and Federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements

Ensure use of quality conformant products through compliance with established materials shelf life programs

Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises

May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement

Military Grades: O4-O5

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment

Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment

Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems

Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls

Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs

WS (All Grade Levels) - In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel

Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines

Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function

Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes

Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations
