Responsibilities

Communicating and working effectively with other Exponent staff at all levels of the company
Designing, planning and executing laboratory tests to support battery failure analysis, abuse testing, and quality assessment projects
Operating and maintaining battery test equipment
Analyzing data and reporting results at an appropriate technical level for the intended audience
Conducting hands-on failure analysis of batteries and battery-containing devices
Performing materials characterization, using techniques such as photography, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray computed tomography scanning, and electrochemical analysis techniques

Required

Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Hands-on experience working on batteries and/or electrochemical energy storage devices in a laboratory setting
Hands-on experience designing, constructing, and maintaining custom test apparatuses in a laboratory setting
Experience in data analysis programmatically (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R)
Experience performing materials characterization using techniques such as photography, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray computed tomography scanning, and electrochemical analysis
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Must be able to convey complex technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal, and related industries
Ability to work within project teams with strong desire to contribute and collaborate
Strong organization and project management skills
Potential for technical and project managerial leadership
Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required

Preferred

Knowledge of Python, Pandas and Matplotlib preferred
