Responsibilities

Conducts microbiological and chemical analyses of raw and treated water. Provides technical services and assistance for water treatment plant optimization; samples raw and treated water for testing purposes. Follows all established safety protocols and works to promote a culture of safety
Maintains water quality monitoring schedules and tracks samples. Coordinates with outside laboratory staff to obtain sampling results. Maintains chain of custody record-keeping system to track samples from initial collection to final analysis. Reviews and enters sampling and analysis data into the Town’s data management system. Utilizes the data management system to generate routine and non-routine water quality reports
Assists with developing and revising water quality analytical and testing methods. Assists with conducting quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure that in-house sampling and analysis procedures are executed appropriately and consistently among staff members
Assists with troubleshooting, maintaining inventory and equipment for the water quality laboratory. Researches the specifications and cost for new equipment as needed
Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information and resolves water quality complaints as necessary. Delivers and promotes a culture of excellent customer service, both internally and externally
Assists with regular and comprehensive water storage tank inspections, in accordance with Water Quality Control Division regulations
Monitors water quality issues and works with appropriate staff to assist with identifying problems, developing solutions, and recommending preventative measures
Attends meetings, conferences and training sessions to keep current with changes in regulatory and industry protocols as assigned
Provides support to the Water Quality Compliance Analyst II, Cross Connection Control Program Administrator, and the Regulatory and Water Quality Coordinator as assigned
Performs other duties as assigned or required

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a closely related field
At least two (2) years of experience in water analysis, water sampling, and/or analytical laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education training, and experience
Valid Colorado driver's license required
Valid Colorado Class D Water Operator Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
Valid Colorado Class I Water Distribution System Operator Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
Practical understanding of the Safe Drinking Water Act and Water Quality Control Division regulations
Working knowledge of chemistry and environmental science
Ability to understand laboratory procedures and field monitoring equipment used for water sampling and testing
Ability to perform water analysis utilizing laboratory and field monitoring equipment
Ability to accurately record and interpret test results, maintain detailed documentation and prepare reports for internal and regulatory use
Ability to maintain organized compliance records including chain-of-custody recordkeeping practices
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office software and data management systems
Ability to follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstances
Ability to physically access all sites to perform all duties, even in adverse weather and environmental conditions, including noisy areas
Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral forms
