Operational Systems Engineer II

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documentation
Author operations documents defining product testing requirements, operations lifecycle, maintenance needs, and critical system interfaces
Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless system integration
Support hardware design reviews, technical assessments, and gated program reviews
Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for mechanical subsystems
Define, validate, and verify system requirements at all program levels using tools like DOORS Next Gen
Conduct and support functional analysis, systems analysis, and safety analysis to ensure robust design
Provide real-time on-console support for integrated tests, launch, and recovery operations, including essential troubleshooting
Analyze test data to provide actionable recommendations for design improvements
Support failure analysis and the implementation of corrective actions

Required

Passion for Blue Origin's mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial) or another technical field
2+ years of proven experience in a relevant field
Strong experience with system engineering principles, processes, and methodologies
Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following: systems analysis, hardware/software design, or integrated testing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be a self-directed individual capable of balancing several tasks simultaneously

Preferred

Advanced degree in an engineering discipline
4+ years of proven experience in a relevant field
Experience in the development, integration, testing, and operation of launch vehicles and complex aerospace mechanical systems (e.g., TVC, Hydraulic Actuators, APU, Electromechanical Actuators)
Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS Next Gen
Knowledge and experience with verification planning, coordination, and the delivery of verification closure notices
Experience in reliability, maintainability, and operability analysis and execution
Familiarity with project planning, implementation, and tracking methodologies
